Dams are aging across the country and bearing the brunt of the impacts of climate change. The result is an increasing concern for their structural integrity as well as growing support for dam removal as a permanent dam safety solution. State dam safety offices have jurisdiction over the vast majority of dams across the nation and are increasingly playing a larger role in removing obsolete, uneconomic, and unsafe dams. This webinar will dive into why the restoration community cares about dam safety, how state dam safety offices are supporting dam removal work, and how partners can campaign to change laws to support dam safety programs and remove dams before they become unsafe. American Rivers will be joined by the Maryland Department of the Environment and Vermont Natural Resources Council.
